What a pleasure to read this as I settle in for yet another revision...I am going to remind myself of Thoreau's words... and no story without conflict.
I only recently discovered Poe's "The Gold Bug" when I purchased a 1927 volume of The World's 100 Best Short Stories from a library bookstore. What an exciting story! I can imagine it being even more exciting to read as a child.
Wonderful piece!
Plainspoken and erudite, essential and evocative, pointing me to books I need to re-read, and others I need to pickup (in these times). Thanks!
So thought provoking, thank you.
Fabulous insights.
